The Widow Kip’s Country Inn

Historic rural homestead located in Virginia's wine country. The Widow Kip's is convenient to battlefields, unique shops, museums, caverns and many colleges and universities. Skiing, hiking, horseback riding, antiquing, golf and fishing are just some of the activities available.

The Widow Kip’s Country Inn

In perhaps the most beautiful part of the Shenandoah Valley is one of the oldest B&Bs in Virginia! The Widow Kip’s! After 25 years of innkeeping the owner is retiring and this restored Victorian homestead is on the market for only the second time in 30 years.

The Inn, located in Mount Jackson, Virginia along the historic Wilderness Road, is truly a reflection of the B&Bs of yesteryear. It is situated on 7 rural acres, ideal for a small vineyard or orchard. The Main House c1830 has five guest rooms and there are two adjacent cottages.

On the first level of the Main House, you have a parlor, a dining room, a kitchen and office, a sunroom, an elegant guest room and the owner’s quarters. Upstairs are four more guest rooms all with private baths.

There are two cottages: The “Silk Purse”, a restored washhouse, and the “Sow’s Ear”, formerly the hen house.

The Silk Purse Cottage has a bedroom, a sitting room with a trundle bed, a large bathroom, and a kitchenette. There is another bedroom and bathroom on the upper level – “The Loft”.

The Sow’s Ear Cottage has an English cottage feel and has a bedroom and a private bathroom. There is also a bedroom and bath on the upper level of this cottage – “Tree Top”.

Farming is the mainstay of Shenandoah County and The Widow Kip’s lies in the middle of this beautiful area between the Alleghany and Massanutten Mountains. According to many, Massanutten Mountain is one of the “best kept secrets of the hiking world”. It is a 50 mile-long mountain range with 150 miles of hiking trails running through 1.1 million acres of George Washington National Forest.

For the wine enthusiasts, there are more than 20 vineyards and wineries in less than an hour’s drive from the Inn! Nearby The Widow Kip’s, the Shenandoah River provides fishing and canoeing and you can drive through a charming Covered Bridge as you meander the countryside. In less than five minutes you can visit the Shenandoah Caverns and its many shops and exhibits, and see spectacular parade floats from famous national celebrations at American Celebration on Parade. Relive history at many Civil War Battlefields and historic sites. There are seven universities along Interstate 81, all within an hour’s drive. And, you don’t want to miss one of America’s premier specialty chip producers – ROUTE 11 Potato Chips!

The Widow Kip’s is offered for sale, for $499,900. Owner may consider financing.
